Play Date

Lucy and the kids came down to play last Sunday- and a grand time was had. Well, at least by Lucy & I, for certain! The plan was to take the first steps in getting Lucy addicted to dye, etc. At the very least, we ended up with some pretty cool things in what, for dyeing, was a short day. The difference in intensity between wet dye and the finished product is always a shocker- but it makes for nice surprises.

Up first: my absolute favorite. I *knew* I should have told her to bring XL tshirts “in case they shrank”. Then this could totally have been mine when *shocker* it didn’t shrink at all.

Next: My 2nd fave. Bleach on Navy. Back then front.

I was worried about this one, but I love what happened. I had Luce add some soy wax before the dye. We splattered the back. Wet, then dry & the back.

The best little bit – down near the hem:

I did my first monoprint testing, played with bleach on some horrid circa 1989 rayon (that I’m SURE I NEVER WORE ANYTHING LIKE IT *cough*), and mostly just doodled around – but I also finally remembered to start doing my swatches. Cotton muslin and silk. Probably should start doing silk broadcloth swatches too. I’ll put pics of my doodling up later–

Oh- and I made some excellent progress in tests for glyph stencils for my SAQA Visioning piece. Tada!

I completely forgot to pick up the pages of ‘abstract color’ (National Geographic pages + CitraSolv) from the garage floor (was that last weekend?) – so I’ll need to wipe them off, but some may be useful.

Carroll pulled out the last of the $12 Ikea doors to give me another work surface, and the box made the perfect ’spray booth’ for getting out the airbrush goodies.

I need to get the hang of it again to actually make some concrete progress on my SAQA Visioning piece. I have a few other things in mind that need that look as well. This was just using thinned jacquard fabric paint. Regardless, it was fun to goof around with the sink mat, brass stencils, and my regular doodles:

Think you know? Think it involves a neurotic cat?

You’d be right.

Wacky.
